CREEPING SOCIALISM IN CANADA: WHERE IS THE POINT OF NO RETURN?
By Gail Parker

Canadians are becoming aware of the alarming speed with which the Liberals in Canada's federal government have, over the past year, been ramming through social programs and control measures, imposing them Canadians and thereby circumscribing their freedom, jeopardizing their safety, interfering with their private lives, and undermining democratic government. The Kyoto Protocol, the Romanow Report, gun registration, the imprisonment of hard working farmers, voting rights for prisoners -- the measures are endless and seem to be gaining momentum. Since the beginning of the Trudeau era, there has been a continuous effort on the part of the Federal Liberal Government (Prime Minister and Cabinet) to gain complete control over the Canadian people, the Liberals applying their Marxist-Socialist ideology and thereby changing Canada into a Socialist state. I can't think of a single piece of legislation that has contributed to the individual liberty of Canadians since the the start of Trudeauism. History has proven that there is a point when all democracies transform into "mob"ocracies and then into dictatorships. I contend that this point has been reached in Canada.

The push to transform Canada into a pure Socialist state has rapidly gained speed during the past year. As quoted by Dave Rutherford of the Corus Radio network, "40% of Canadians earn all or a portion of their income from taxpayers' money," working for Crown corporations or government agencies as civil servants. It is difficult to calculate the real numbers, but this is likely a conservative estimate.

It's likely the point of no return to individual freedoms will be reached when more than half of Canadians are working for the government bureaucracy in agencies or crown corporations as civil servants, and the remaining working citizens, the minority, would be either unable to obtain employment or employed by the over-taxed and highly regulated private sector. At this point we will have become a "mob"ocracy.

Ayn Rand wrote, "If some men are entitled by right to the products of the work of others, it means that those others are deprived of their rights and condemned to slave labor." Why would any productive Canadians want to be employed by the private sector or own his/her own business when they would be robbed of the fruits of their labor? This is the point where the majority would tip the scales to the Left toward application of Marxist-Socialist ideology, an economic system in which the private sector, as the minority, will be rendered slaves by taxation and unable to compete in the global market place. Establishment of such an economic system would be near impossible to stop, as more and more people become dependent upon government for their welfare. The powers of government would reign supreme. Government would be in control of the money and the welfare of all dependent Canadians. The closer that any country emulates or practices Marxist-Socialist doctrines, the lower the standard of living, the lower the currency value, and the fewer and weaker the rights and freedoms of the individual. As in all oligarchies, all the power would then be in the hands of an elitist few in the Federal Cabinet and in the higher echelons of the federal bureaucracy.

It is by design of our governmental system, whether led by ruthless or benevolent leaders, to gain psychological and then economic control of the people. The design of the Canadian parliamentary system inherited from Britain is structured to enable government leaders to reign supreme over its people. Canada has a top-down system of government passed down from adherents and practitioners of an imperialistic ideology of Queens and Kings, operating a political system in which the political power is intended to stay in the hands of the elite. The system was invented during times when the people were deemed unable to determine their own destiny. It's time that the destiny of Canada should be in the hands of the people by way of a Constitution of laws which limits governmental powers and punishes abuses against the people. This can only become a reality by abolishing the British parliamentary system of government and adopting a republican form of government, with a new Constitution of, by, and for the people and with real representation and accountability

Freedom beats in the hearts of every human being. As in the former Soviet Union, the slaves will revolt in the name of freedom.
