LIBERAL ANALYSIS OF THE WAR IN IRAQ:
THE LEFTIST CLOWNS WERE WRONG!
By Paul Walfield

The political Left was wrong about everything.  There was no quagmire, the troops were not stalled, there was no devastating urban fighting, and there weren't countless civilian casualties.  The Iraqi people, by and large, welcomed Coalition forces with open arms and, the first chance they got, the Iraqi people toppled the statues and symbols of Sad- dam Hussein's regime. Iraqis themselves were instrumental in the capture of Saddam's cohorts.

The New York Times, the Nation magazine, "intellectuals," and academia from Ivy League universities were all wrong, and all were Liberals.  The major television and radio networks did their best to sway America to their way of thinking, but the facts on the ground, the American spirit, did not allow the brainwashing that had engulfed the media's elite to infect true Americans.  I know the political Left wants everyone to be- lieve that dissenting is patriotic, especially when you are bashing America and siding with the French, but they are wrong about that also.

The Leftists have less depth than the paint on their protest banners, but that doesn't mean the rest of us are the same shallow zombies they are.  What you say matters.  Hav- ing the right to speak freely is just that, a right, and, as with all rights, comes responsi- bilities.  While that concept sends shivers and the beginnings of aneurisms in the folks that live in ivory towers, to the people on the ground, it is what it is.

The press in America, thought indispensable for a free and constitutional democratic society, has turned from its essential role as a watchdog to an attack dog.  The press doesn't just exhibit skepticism to information it receives from the government, it is downright hostile.  Quoting unnamed sources from unknown levels of government, the press regularly gives credence to contrary tidings, and a wink to official statements.

In the war with Iraq, the press, Democratic Party politicians, Liberal ideologues, Holly- wood celebrities, academia, and retired generals who followed the propaganda line that the Iraq war was going badly for Coalition forces were shown to be foolish, at best.  The ideals of the 1960s, based on the proposition that the government lies and deceives as a matter of policy, were never correct.  Nevertheless, it remains a mainstay of America haters everywhere.  If you believe the Pentagon, the White House, whatever, you are considered naive or worse.

The America haters want you to believe them when they say the government lies and can never be believed.  You need to follow the Left to find the truth.  Yet, they have been wrong about everything and haven't had a decent, original idea for 40 years.

Just the same, the Founders were correct and the government does need a watchdog to keep them honest and Americans informed and proud.  Unfortunately, the news media has become an antagonist that not only displays distrust for the government, but also portrays the government as an adversary to us all.  As Americans, we have all been subjected to a constant flow of anti-governmental bile coming at us in print, radio, and TV for decades now.  Even the film industry hasn't produced a pro-government movie since the 1970's.

Virtually all of us have some part of our psyche conditioned to accept not just a skepti- cism of what comes out of Washington, D.C., but also a cynical view of our government.  Many Americans would view a pro-government movie coming out of Hollywood as prop- aganda, but see an anti-government movie as acceptable and in no need of criticism.

Blindly following pronouncements and edicts coming from Washington may not be the smartest thing to do, but why should Americans give more credence to the media people who got everything wrong?  It probably isn't a natural, innate quality in humans to be- lieve that the people who they like, the people who they voted into government office, are liars, thieves, and power hungry monsters that will happily turn the United States of America into a banana republic the first chance they get.  Yet, like the computer pro- grammers who said the sky was falling before Y2K, the press wants us all to believe that, without them, Chicken Little would be right.

The Leftists want us all to believe that they should not be held accountable for what they tried to convince us was true, when it wasn't.  The Leftists want us to still believe them now and listen to their advice.  They simply move along to the next absurdity and de- mand that we not criticize them, or hold them accountable because, to do so, would be a violation of their First Amendment rights, and it would be downright un-American to criticize people who are un-American.  In fact, it is un-American to call people un-Ameri- can.

Think about it.  Now they want you to believe that it is un-American for Americans to exercise their First Amendment rights, if so doing would criticize celebrities, pundits, and leaders who criticize the American government.  In other words, it is natural and a higher calling to damn America, but unnatural, foolish, and even unconstitutional to defend America.  Amazing stuff.

We have Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Party Floor Leader in the U.S. House of Represen- tatives, i.e., House Minority Leader, saying that the Iraqis should have stayed under the thumb of Saddam Hussein, as she has no regrets in her original proposition that America stay out of Iraq.  Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean told CNN on April 23, 2003, that he did not believe the Iraqis were better off without Saddam, declaring:  "We don't know that yet. We don't know that yet, Wolf. We still have a country whose city is mostly without electricity. We have tumultuous occasions in the south where there is no clear governance. We have a major city without clear governance. We don't know yet, and until we do..."  For the Democratic Party leadership, Arab lives and freedom are not very important.  What is important is giving the impression that a Republican adminis- tration messed up.

Democratic Senator Harkin of Iowa indicated he believed that the American military didn't really do all that well in Iraq.  Rather the Iraqis were just pushovers that a Girl Scout troop could have beaten.  Senator Harkin stated: "So if they were that weak, where we could just roll over them like that, tell me again how he was such a big threat in the past?"  Harkin added: "It looks now like this was just a Third World country ... there were people fighting with tennis shoes on, on the Iraqi side. I don't know what else we're going to find, but they didn't fly even one airplane in the air. They had almost nothing."  For some Democrats, thousands of dead Americans would be necessary to convince them a Republican was telling the truth.  Then again, thousands of dead Americans would prove a Republican was incompetent.  For the Liberals, Americans dying or living were equally desirable in their quest to discredit Republicans.

For Americans, giving the benefit of the doubt to your own country is natural and part of being an American.  Seeing your military as a capable force is also natural and being American.

More importantly, valuing your own population above your enemies, and rooting for your country's success, is natural and being American.  To do otherwise is something less.

The folks that bash America and make dismal predictions about America's interventions and attempts to maintain its security were shown to be wrong in virtually every instance and to any measurable degree.  In a word, they are clowns, without any credibility.  They need not be sent for, they are already here and they have a name--Liberals.
