THAT ANNOYING ISSUE OF "HOMELAND SECURITY"
By Christopher G. Adamo

In the aftermath of a near miss from yet another Islamic terrorist, the blatant incompetence and callous indifference of the Obama White House is not creating nearly the stir that was generated by the network anchors following Hurricane Katrina during the second term of President George W. Bush. Nevertheless, the evidence is glaring, and like the “Climate Gate” revelations of wholesale fraud from England’s East Anglia, Climate Research Unit, this story will not remain hushed forever.

SHAMELESS ISLAMIST DOUBLESPEAK RAGING ON:

By Raymond Ibrahim

So long as Western political leaders, diplomats and intellectuals, in all their naivete or arrogance, continue believing their ideals are universally shared, irrespective of all evidence otherwise — from the antithetic dictates of Islamic law to al-Qa'ida's, Fatah's, Hamas', and Hezbollah's open advocacy for it (in Arabic at least) — the indignity of the West's assuming an effete and, from an Arab point of view, emasculated role in an Islamic-dominated world order is quite likely to be seen as a small and, quite possibly, temporary price to pay for "peace in our time."

PALIN, CONSERVATISM, & THE DISCONNECTED GOP
By Christopher G. Adamo

For nearly two decades now, and particularly in the wake of the 2000 presidential election debacle, Democrats have been pursuing a diabolically simple political strategy. In short, they moved to the hard Left, knowing how reflexively the “mainstream” Republican response would be to follow them. But, of course, the GOP would pathetically claim that, by doing so to a lesser degree than the Democrats, it would somehow retain the mantle of “Conservatism.”

AN ALARMIST MODELER'S HISTORY OF CLIMATE CHANGES:
Climate Changes & Their Causes Through the Ages,

By Paul K. Driessen

If carbon dioxide is the primary cause of global warming, it must have played that role throughout history. The challenge is to discover the sources of that CO2 climate villain in the past. This brief summary of key events is intended to aid in that quest, and explain how the Al Gore-James Hansen thesis worked through the ages.

This article is largely tongue-in-cheek, but it contains important lessons for readers – and for anyone who may still be straining to explain climate change and global warming disasters by resorting to carbon dioxide as the sole or principal cause.

GREENS AGAIN BAIT & SWITCH ON ENERGY
By Dennis T. Avery

Back during the bad old Bush Presidency, the eco-movement loudly endorsed ethanol, particularly cellulosic ethanol, as a good eco-substitute for gasoline. Now, they’ve changed their minds. They’re finally admitting that you can’t grow ethanol and food on the same acres. If you’re going to add ethanol to your shopping list, you need to clear more land to grow the feedstock. When forest or grassland is cleared and plowed, huge amounts of carbon stored in the soil gas off into the air. If Global Warming is man-made, this is a serious problem.

FORT HOOD & THE ACADEMIC APOLOGISTS

In the wake of the horrific attack at the Fort Hood military base in Texas earlier this month, and the mounting evidence that the shooter, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, was motivated by Islamist beliefs, the media has turned to Middle East Studies "experts" for enlightenment. Instead, what the media, and, by extension, the American public, has received is the moral relativism and obfuscation that too often meets any effort to address Islamism or jihadism in an intellectually honest manner.

A MAN-MADE FINANCIAL DISASTER
By Alan Caruba

America's present difficulties began on September 15, 2008, in a calculated attack that got Barack Hussein Obama elected President of the U.S.A. and was immediately followed by all the subsequent efforts to grow the federal government ever larger to make more Americans dependent upon it. The Obama administration has increased the national debt more than all previous Presidencies combined.

There is a determined effort under way to undermine the free market capitalist system that made America the greatest economic and military power in the world. Both the Obama White House and the Democrat-controlled Congress are parties to it, but the identities of those who launched that September attack remain hidden.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM NEW YORK DISTRICT 23
By Christopher G. Adamo

Contrary to the propaganda regularly offered as “analysis” by the Liberal media/Democratic Party axis, the backlash against Republicans in 2006 and 2008 was by no means an embrace of the mindset of the political Left. The American people overwhelmingly identify with Conservatism, but no longer with Republicans, who all too often disavow any loyalty to it. Having vainly attempted to ingratiate themselves with the political “Center,” GOP “moderates” lost touch with the Conservative base.

America is ripe for a reestablishment of those former ties. But it remains to be seen whether the Republican Party will recognize and seize this opportunity to return to its roots and return to power. It would be a welcome change.

ISLAMIST PERFIDY & WESTERN NAIVETY

Islamist perfidy is only to be expected; Western naivety, on the other hand, which, if anything, should have begun to dissipate in our post-9/11 world, has burgeoned to the point of nearly making the former unnecessary. For while there is no doubt that Islamists (and their misguided Western cronies) distort the meaning of jihad, increasingly, even when the true meaning is in plain sight, America's leaders and media still fail to discern it. In other words, apathy — or willful blindness — regarding jihad has become so deep-seated in the West that Islamists need no longer actively dissemble.

DON'T TAKE NETANYAHU TO THE WOODSHED
By Steven J. Rosen

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Washington, D.C., on Sunday, November 8, 2009, following weeks of speculation about whether he would be met by U.S. President Barack Obama during the visit. When his plane took off, there was still no word from the White House. Finally, at the last minute, the President's staff confirmed that there would be a brief meeting late Monday night.

With Obama's "trust" ratings among the Israeli public sunk below 10 percent, compared with ratings in the 70 to 80 percent range for past Presidents like Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, one might have thought that Obama would seize the opportunity of Netanyahu's visit as a chance to warm the relationship with the country he describes as the United States' No. 1 ally in the Middle Eastern region. Instead, the delayed response and brief Monday meeting were quickly deemed in the Israeli press as a full-fledged snub.

ENERGY ABCS: PLAYING AMERICANS FOR FOOLS

I have long harbored strong doubts about the knowledge that most Americans possess regarding the sources of energy they largely take for granted. We flip a switch and the lights go on. We pull up to the gas pump and drive away. We use machines that are totally dependent on having enough electricity to power entire cities as well as rural communities.

Since all successful economies depend on abundant, affordable energy, why is the Congress preparing to pass a cap-and-trade bill, renamed to suggest “clean energy” and “national security” is relevant to imposition of a huge tax on the use of energy by all Americans?

ISRAEL'S RIGHT TO EXIST AS A NATION-STATE       PC, Volume XI, Issue # 191, Nov. 4, 2009
ISRAEL & THE FAMILY OF NATIONS
A BOOK REVIEW
By Seth J. Frantzman

It is one of the great shames of the modern world that there is still a question as to whether Israel has a right to exist in its present form or any form at all. Despite the relative insecurity of the country militarily, this problem was absent during the first twenty years of Israel's existence. The actual threat to Israel's survival by the Arab armies meant that, on an intellectual and international level, there were fewer calls for its destruction, at least outside of the Arab and Muslim world. With the exception of some radical voices in the West, such as historian Arnold Toynbee's 1961 comparison of Israel to Nazi Germany, there were relatively few intellectuals in the West that called for the destruction of Israel or attempted to undermine its foundations as a Jewish, democratic state.

Recent years have seen a rise, in academic circles and student movements throughout the Western world, of a general cultural shift against the existence of Israel.

These estimates cover only the costs of the “user permits” that companies will have to buy. They don’t even try to measure the massive reduction in our economic output as energy costs double and triple with scarcity.

Ibtihal Bsis, the show's host, is a member of the Islamist group Hizb ut Tahrir; Mogahed's fellow guest, Nazreen Nawaz, is the group's national women's media representative. OBAMA'S COMMUNISTS
By Alan Caruba

“Tailgunner” Joe McCarthy, a 1950s U.S. Senator from Wisconsin who lent his name to any effort to expose America’s internal enemies, was right. At the height of his fame, Senator Joseph R. McCarthy said the U.S. government was shot through with Communists, many of whom were participating in a vast espionage effort orchestrated by Soviet agents, operating under the direction and control of the Soviet foreign intelligence apparatus headquartered in Moscow.

Were there Communists and spies for the Soviet Union in the U.S. government? Yes, but we would not learn more until a young U.S. Senator from California, Richard M. Nixon, identified Alger Hiss, a high-ranking U.S. State Department official, as one.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in the 1990s, the records that became available to historians and other scholars confirmed McCarthy’s worst fears.

OBAMA'S UNCONSTITUTIONAL "CZARS"
By Alan Caruba

Here’s a question that has been nagging me for months. Are Obama’s ever-growing number of “czars” constitutional? I am not a constitutional scholar, but I have read the document known as the Constitution of the United States.

As I read it, the U.S. Constitution is very specific about whom the President may appoint, and he can do so only within parameters “established by law” and this applies specifically to the “heads of departments.” I interpret this to mean Cabinet Secretaries, all of whom must be vetted and approved for their positions by the U.S. Senate.

The Republican National Committee’s Conservative Caucus recently passed a resolution expressing their concern, noting: “The U.S. Constitution explicitly states that government officers with significant authority (called ‘principal officers’) must be nominated by the President and are subject to a vote of the U.S. Senate.”

What too many in the West desire for the Islamic Middle East is not attainable. The West wants the region to adopt a measure of justice and freedom that took hundreds of years to develop in its own area of the world. As a huge population of young Arabs seeks some measure of real freedom, they will likely turn to revolution and rebellion to achieve it. Or they may unite through sheer numbers to impose Sharia law on the West in a misguided attempt to determine their own fate. This factor is already transforming Europe with its growing Muslim population.

WHY SHARIAH MUST BE OPPOSED
By Dr. Daniel Pipes

Those of us who argue against Shariah are sometimes asked why Islamic law poses a problem, when modern Western societies, long ago, accommodated Halakha, or Jewish law. In fact, this was one of the main talking points of those who, in 2005, argued that Shariah should become an accepted part of dispute resolution in Ontario, Canada.

The answer is easy: a fundamental difference separates the two. Islam is a missionizing religion, Judaism is not. Islamists aspire to apply Islamic law to everyone, while observant Jews seek only to live by Jewish law themselves.

Two very recent examples from the United Kingdom demonstrate the innate imperialism of Islamic law.

In every instance, he tells adoring crowds and media sycophants what they want to hear, often contradicting last week’s statements with this week’s damage control sound bite. And, considering that his poll numbers have remained above single digits, it must be conceded that, to some extent, the ploy is working.

Nevertheless, over time, Obama’s vision for America has materialized. It is an ugly picture. Fantastic promises of lavish government provisions for every citizen (and non citizen) eventually reveal themselves to be a well-crafted veneer overlaying bureaucratic nightmares from which no law-abiding citizen can hope to escape. In stark contrast, no real “benefit” is to be reaped from this encroaching monster.

The danger is apparent. Should Israeli officials believe that the West will stand aside as Iran achieves nuclear capability and that a nuclear Islamic Republic poses an existential threat to the Jewish state, they may conclude that they have no choice but to launch a preemptive military strike -- an event that could quickly lead to a regional conflagration from which the United States would have difficulty remaining aloof, regardless of the White House's intentions.

OBAMA'S PUZZLING APPROACH TO THE MUSLIM WORLD
By Raymond Ibrahim

Prior to the 2008 presidential election, many hailed Barack Obama's Muslim roots, his "otherness," as strategic to endearing the Muslim world to the U.S.A. In fact, his unique ability to appreciate the Islamic world's epistemology — his experiences, not his name — was the real bonus. Unfortunately, not only is he not making use of this advantage; he is spearheading the reverse — apologies, concessions, and soft talk — all which will inevitably promote an even more assertive Muslim response. Yet, he, of all American Presidents, should — indeed, does — know better.

TOUGH LOVE IS NO LOVE AT ALL:
Why Obama's Approach to Israel Is Collapsing, Rapidly
By Dr. Stephen J. Rosen

The Obama administration is still on the wrong track, as regards Israeli settlements. Days ago, Israel's new ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, was warned that the United States wants a halt to construction of 20 apartments in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem. Netanyahu responded: "There is no ban on Arabs buying apartments in the west of the city, and there is no ban on Jews building or buying in the city's east." How could the Obama administration believe that any major Israeli political party could possibly agree to making any part of Jerusalem a Judenrein, i.e., an area to be purged of Jews? Just how far do Obama and his Leftist henchmen plan to go with their pro-Arab and anti-Semitic policy of confrontation with Israel?

Their interpretation, however, is quite accurate, and the Koran is a call to arms and battle plan for the conquest of the world.

By Dr. Steven J. Rosen

Benjamin Netanyahu was sworn in as Israel's Prime Minister on March 31, 2009. Within weeks, the Obama administration launched a high-profile public campaign to confront Israel's new leader on the issue that most divides the two governments: Israel's settlements in the West Bank.

It was an unusual way to welcome the new leader of a close friend of the United States. Why did the Obama team veer so sharply off the normal course? Diplomacy toward an ally normally begins with building relations of trust on areas of agreement, and only later engaging discreetly on issues where there are sharp differences.

DID AMERICA REALLY WANT THIS?
By Christopher G. Adamo

Throughout most of the two hundred and thirty three years since that first Independence Day, a significant number of Americans have indulged in the luxury of ignoring the entire political scene, caring not whether the particular administration in power leans Left or Right. This was mainly due to the forethought of the Founders, who, in their wisdom, established binding limits on the actions of government through the Constitution. Therefore, regardless of who held the reins of power, deviations in the direction of the country would probably remain within safe perameters.

Unfortunately, this relative safety inherent in American life eventually led to ignorance and complacency, which made it inevitable that eventually a leader would emerge who held the nation’s founding principles, along with the entire concept of limited government, in total contempt. Barack Obama hates everything good about America, its former standing in the world, and the ideals of morality and freedom for which it once stood.

PROTESTS AREN'T ENOUGH TO TOPPLE THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC

Street protests in Iran are important, but are themselves not enough to force change. The Supreme Leader will not be swayed because he considers himself accountable to God, not to the people. Indeed, even the Islamic Republic's clerical establishment is irrelevant in this calculus. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's invocation of folk religion -- his appeals to the messianic Hidden Imam, for example -- is a way to bypass senior religious figures who, according to Shiite theology, will be among the greatest obstacles to the Hidden Imam's return. Nor does the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, pay too much heed to his fellow clerics in Qom. They have always refused to bestow on Khamenei a level of religious legitimacy to match his ambition. Today, the majority of Iran's grand ayatollahs oppose the concept of theological rule. Not by coincidence, the majority are now in prison or under house arrest.

As the Obama administration crafts its Iranian strategy, it should not repeat the mistakes of the past. The Bush approach lacked cohesion and coordination. A month after President George W. And, although the White House talked tough -- much to the ire of the pro-engagement crowd -- the Bush administration engaged the Islamic Republic more than any administration since Jimmy Carter's, thereby losing the trust of those seeking more sticks than carrots. Regardless of his ultimate policy, President Barack Hussein Obama must realize that the gap between rhetoric and reality is inversely proportional to credibility.

By Dr. David Bukay

During the past thirty-five years, democracy may have taken root in Eastern Europe, East Asia, Latin America and much of sub-Saharan Africa, but the Middle East has largely been left behind. Except for Israel, Middle Eastern countries have long histories of authoritarianism, influenced by both culture and religion. In modern years, this has manifested itself in the rise, if not of direct military rule, then of states supported by militaries focused more on inward threats than on external enemies. Middle Eastern militaries, whether in Algeria, Egypt or Turkey, have served as the main bulwark against the spread or empowerment of Islamists. However, Western policymakers must prepare for the day that the regional militaries will switch sides, casting their lot with Islamists, rather than more secular autocrats.

On June 4, 2009, U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama declared, "I've come here to Cairo to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world." Awed by Obama's rhetoric, many commentators -- blogger Juan Cole and MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann, for example -- suggested that an "Obama Effect" could usher in a new era of hope and change in the Middle East, and a pro-American outcome in Lebanese elections earlier this month seemed to cooperate with the theory.

After Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's reelection in Iran, we can now say with confidence: There is an Obama Effect, but it has less to do with reform and more to do with American arrogance and the triumph of advocacy over analysis.

No country in the world would risk as much for “global warming” as New Zealand, if it goes ahead with the cap-and-trade energy taxation installed by former Prime Minister Helen Elizabeth Clark’s now-departed Labour Party-Progressive Party coalition government.

New Zealand’s economy is almost completely dependent on its farm exports: lamb, dairy products, beef and high-end white wines. Half of New Zealand’s carbon emissions come from cattle and sheep. If New Zealand taxes its cows and sheep hundreds of dollars per animal for methane emissions and manure handling fees, Argentina would almost immediately displace New Zealand’s farm exports. Argentina has more grass, more cattle, the potential for more lambs, a surging wine industry — and no Kyoto Protocol obligations.

Its preferred instrument is terrorism.

Mr. Issaki claimed that 9/11 could have been averted "if things had been done in the right way," but he sees similar barriers hindering intelligence work seven years later. In particular, he stated that U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama's release of documents on enhanced interrogation techniques has done "irreversible damage to security because [terrorists] are learning how to behave" during questioning.

Mr. Issaki warned that al-Qai'da's demise in Iraq has been greatly exaggerated. Recent events show that the organization still is capable of generating chaos there, to the undisputed benefit of Iran.

The Taliban -- or, for that matter, the Iranian leadership -- are motivated not by earthly desires, but by a religious ideology, one that brands any government unwilling to bow to their demands as illegitimate and Satanic. To them, negotiations can be useful only for gaining immediate advantage: The Taliban might gain safe haven; Tehran might gain time.

Unless President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton understand that soft power and accommodation are about as effective at countering Islamism as lollipops are at curing cancer, the Taliban's march to Buner may become the symbol of the Obama Presidency, played out repeatedly, from Baghdad to Basra to Beirut.

PAKISTAN IMPLODES
By Alan Caruba

The wars going on in the Middle East will soon be the entire world’s next war, as the fanatic Islamists throughout the region threaten to take over Pakistan and Afghanistan, while continuing to wage war in Iraq. If they’re successful, India will be dragged into the full scale battle against the Taliban and al-Qa'ida. Where it spreads from there is anyone’s guess.

It is a battle between the Seventh Century of Islam and the Twenty-first Century of the rest of the world. It is a battle waged by men who believe that Allah demands an Islamist jihad against the non-Muslim world, and they are prepared to spend as much time as necessary to achieve victory.

BACK TO THE "GOOD OLD DAYS": U.S. ENERGY & CLIMATE
PROPOSALS WOULD DRAG US BACK TO 1905 -- OR 1862
By Paul K. Driessen

Many activists, bureaucrats, politicians, and even some corporate executives present arbitrary CO2 reduction targets and timetables almost casually – as though achieving them were simple, desirable, and necessary.

In reality, reducing America’s carbon dioxide levels to 80% below 1990 levels would return the United States to emission levels last seen in 1905, and that’s before accounting for changes in population and energy-based technology. The impact on our nation’s economy, employment, manufacturing, living standards, and health would be profoundly negative.

And, yet, there has been virtually no mention of this in Capitol Hill hearings or public policy discussions.

The purpose of this commentary is to bring these facts to light, and present fresh perspectives on cap-and-tax proposals, CO2 reductions, and wind energy “substitutes” for the hydrocarbons that make our lives possible.

JUST THE BEGINNING
By Dr. Michael Rubin

U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama has made outreach to the Islamic Republic of Iran a foreign policy centerpiece of his administration. U.S. diplomats have sought out their Iranian counterparts at international forums and agreed to meet Iranian officials without precondition.

Obama believes in born-again diplomacy -- that, whether with Iran, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, North Korea or Russia, it is possible to forget the past and start anew. Alas, the world does not revolve around Obama nor has the reason for the poor state of US-Iran relations been simply lack of past effort on the part of the U.S.A..

MISS USA & THE UGLY COUNTERCULTURE
By Christopher G. Adamo

It may seem odd that the profundity of Martin Niemoller could find a fitting application in the unlikely venue of a beauty pageant. But such is the depths to which America has descended, as prominent members of its counterculture exercise ever-greater influence on society.

Niemoller, the German clergyman who warned of the consequences of passivity in the face of evil, lamented that he had done nothing while Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich attacked and oppressed one target group after another within the overall population. Eventually, he became a target, but, by then, nobody was left to intervene for him. So it is that every concerned citizen must take note of the abominable proceedings of last week’s “Miss USA” pageant, and rally to the support of Carrie Prejean, the intended victim.

INCREDIBLE SEA LEVEL RISE IS NOT CREDIBLE
By Dennis T. Avery

A recent scientific paper quoted in the New York Times claimed Mexican corals that died 120,000 years ago showed sea levels might have surged 10 feet in just 50 years! If so, such a sea-level rise must have involved a big ice-melt in Antarctica.

Beware, however. Global warming alarmists are particularly desperate to claim that the Antarctic is “warming first” — as the computerized climate models predicted the Polar Regions would. That’s a problem. Satellite readings show the Antarctic ice is increasing by 45 billion tons per year and the Antarctic sea ice is at record-large extent.

President Obama has made claims of wanting to “unify” the American nation. Yet, few have properly grasped Obama's actual intention, and thus the enormous danger posed by his goal. Unlike great former Presidents, such as Ronald Wilson Reagan, who sought to bring the nation together by uplifting and inspiring, Obama seeks to ramrod his thoroughly Leftist and countercultural policy agenda, while marginalizing and eventually silencing any opposition. Herein lies the “unity” under a tyranny.

As regards the recent Somali pirate standoff with U.S. forces, what appeared to have been a bunch of lawless, plunder-seeking Somalis "yo-hoing" on the high seas may well in fact be related to jihad — as attested to by both Islamic history and doctrine.

Indeed, the first jihad a newborn U.S.A. encountered was of a pirate nature: the Barbary Wars off the coast of North Africa, beginning 1801, exactly 200 years before the Islamist terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

PAKISTAN & IRAN: THEIR DYSFUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIP
By Dr. Harsh V. Pant

In April, 2008, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Pakistan as part of a whistle-stop tour of South Asia. The meeting was cordial but tense. While the two neighbors were once staunch Cold War allies, the Islamic Revolution, Afghanistan's civil war, and Pakistan's nuclear development have transformed the relationship into one of tense rivalry. As Afghanistan's stability has become a U.S. strategic concern, preventing Pakistan-Iran tensions from again transforming Afghanistan into a proxy battlefield should be a U.S. interest. Unfortunately, so long as the Iranian and Pakistani governments remain concerned with the defense of Shi'i and Sunni sectarian interests respectively, U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan may not be able to bring stability, but, at best, may remain referees in a struggle that extends far beyond that country's borders.

WYOMING TAX DAY "TEA PARTY" SPEECH
By Christopher G. Adamo

Instinctively, we all understand the consequences of fiscal irresponsibility among elected officials, as they increasingly ignore any constitutional limits on their actions. This, combined with the cultural and social collapse that has been unfolding for the past several decades, signify a course on which America simply cannot continue.

The concept of a citizen being the beneficiary of his or her own work is being systematically eradicated. In its place, we are forced to accept the notion that some “greater good,” according to those who want to define “good” in “politically correct" terms, requires theft from one citizen, in order to buy the loyalty of another.

Government, the public entity that was initially established to protect the private property and other basic rights of the citizen, has now become the biggest threat he or she faces. Law, which in a free society is intended to provide a safe framework within which the people can live and grow, now has degenerated into a weapon by which an unscrupulous “ruling class” bludgeons the commoner into compliance. Therein lies the road to servitude.

They, in turn, “securitized” them and sold them to insurance, banking, and investment houses that fell victim to what is arguably an insane policy based entirely on the Liberal belief that everyone has “a right” to live in their own home, even if they could not afford it.

The Obama White House, apparently forgetful that we live in the Internet age, where everything is swiftly documented and disseminated — or else thinking it leads a blind nation — insists the U.S. President did not bow. He supposedly always bends in half when shaking hands with shorter people, though he certainly seemed quite erect when saluting the British Queen, who is much shorter than the Saudi King.

Obama bowed; this much is certainly not open to debate. All that is left now is to place his odious obeisance in context. As such, history has much to say about the seemingly innocuous bow.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is not a passive actor, however. Quite the opposite: While President Obama plays checkers, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei plays chess. The nuclear enrichment milestone is a testament both to Tehran's pro-active strategy and to Washington's refusal to recognize it.

The U.S. government embraces dialogue without accountability, while the Iranian political regime embraces diplomacy without sincerity. Washington's willingness to talk and negotiate is seen by the Iranian government as U.S. capitulation to the goals of Iran's nuclear weapons program.

A foremost example of the Arabs' public relations prowess lies in their ability to transform the map of the Arab-Israeli conflict. In the early decades, maps of the Arab-Israeli conflict showed Israel in a vast Middle East, a presence so small, one practically needed a magnifying glass to locate it. These days, however, the conflict is typically portrayed by a huge Israel looming over the fractured West Bank and Gaza areas.

This shift in size implies a shift in underdog status; whereas Israel's weak-actor status once came through clearly, the Palestinians have now usurped that position, with all its attendant benefits.

Today Muslims, many from rural traditional areas, comprise the bulk of non-European immigrants to Europe. Even those who have settled in cities retain a village mentality and are seen as backward by the business and cultural elites in their home countries. Europe and other Western liberal, constitutional democratic countries exert a strong pull on immigrants. The fundamental premise of almost all of these is that Islam's purported violence — as found in Islamic scriptures and history — is no different than the violence committed by other religious groups throughout history and as recorded in their scriptures, groups such as Jews and Christians. The premise, in short, is that it is not Islam per se, but, rather, human nature, that is prone to violence.

The events of the past few weeks, when considered in their entirety, reveal that Republicans are being set up to take another fall.

DO WE NEED A NEW NEW DEAL?
By Dr. Burton W. Folsom, Jr.

The New Deal has probably been the greatest political force in America during the last 100 years, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt has probably been the most influential President during this time. In our current economic crisis — which some have compared with the Great Depression — many critics are calling for more federal programs and a “New New Deal.” There are three reasons we do not need a New New Deal from President Barack Hussein Obama in 2009.

DO CONSERVATIVES NEED TO GET BEYOND REAGAN?
By Rush Limbaugh

There is no such thing, at least in America, as “big-government Conservatism.” A government that abides by the Constitution and protects our God-given freedoms is, by definition, limited. Rather than carving out blocs of voters by surrendering their principles, Conservatives need to continue to tell the American people as a whole that the ideas of individual liberty and limited government are right and that the policies that come from those ideas work best to produce prosperity. Conservatives don’t need to reinvent themselves. They need the courage to be once again who they were.

By Dennis T. Avery

That vast cloud of brown pollution hanging over Asia comes from wood and cattle dung being burned in millions of Third World home-fires, according to Orjan Gustafsson, a bio-geochemist from Stockholm University. Gustaffsson recently tested the smoke of the Asian brown cloud with a newly developed radiocarbon technique, and found that two-thirds of the brown cloud’s particles are organic matter, mostly wood, straw, and dung.

These are the “renewable fuels” that Greenpeace and the Sierra Club do not want publicized.

EXPLAINING ISRAEL'S STRATEGIC MISTAKES
By Dr. Daniel Pipes

In an article earlier this month, "Israel's Strategic Incompetence in Gaza," I made three points: that the Israeli leadership unilaterally created its current problems in Gaza, that the war against Hamas meant ignoring the much larger threat of Iranian nuclear weapons, and that the goal of empowering Al-Fatah makes no sense.

These arguments prompted an earful from readers, who made interesting points that deserve answers.

Fortunately for the underwriters of the “new order,” most Americans remain blissfully ignorant of the plotting and maneuvering going on inside the Beltway. As long as the network anchors keep force-feeding the people a steady diet of euphoric anecdotes regarding everything Obama, along with the predictable public opinion polls showing that the ruse has gained near universal acceptance, America can continue inexorably on its descent into collectivism, or socialism.

Turki goes on to instruct in detail the Obama administration on what to do.

Hamas is a bully aided by a bigger bully, Iran. And, just as strident and threatening human bullies get away with their aggression so long as no one calls their bluff, so Hamas has been getting away with murder and torture because the United Nations and many sovereign states won't call its two-faced self-portrayal as the victim in the piece. In the struggle to take over Gaza from Fatah, it went on a rampage that killed hundreds of Palestinians.

Like all bullies, Hamas likes to taunt its victims. It did just that for years after Israel left Gaza, firing rockets every day into Israeli towns like Sderot or Netivot.

By Eyal Zisser

On the night of February 12, 2008, a car bomb in Damascus killed Imad Mughniyeh, the head of Hezbollah's military wing. The assassination shattered the legend of Hezbollah's invincibility. Intelligence services of at least forty countries had pursued Mughniyeh for decades, and he had succeeded in evading them all. His elusiveness substantiated Hezbollah's claim that its enemies had no hope of finding cracks in the group's network or in the ranks of its faithful. Mughniyeh's death destroyed that myth. Since that fateful Tuesday, every child in Lebanon knows that whoever got Mughniyeh will be able to get to Hasan Nasrallah, Hezbollah's Secretary-General, as well.

Those of us who get the bulk of our news from the Internet are probably aware of pro-Hamas rallies that have taken place across the U.S.A. over the last couple of weeks. To name just a couple: in Los Angeles, the Islamists chanted "Heil Hitler," "death to the Jews," "death to Israel" and "down, down, USA!" In Fort Lauderdale, Jews were exhorted to "go back to the ovens." As Spencer noted, "Never before in American history, have we seen people openly, on American soil, and in full light of video cameras, saying that they want to see a renewal of a genocidal ambition, and they want to see a whole people exterminated."

So where was the mainstream media? Aside from a story on the Fort Lauderdale event on FOX News, they were nowhere to be seen.

The event is part of the festivities for the inauguration of Barack Obama, which occurs January 20. A convert to Islam, Mattson directs the Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations at Hartford Seminary.

ISNA has close ties with the Muslim Brotherhood, a radical Islamist group, and was named an un-indicted co-conspirator in United States v. We can no longer afford to “just say no” to domestic petroleum, during the long transition to future energy technologies that we cannot begin to envision – any more than even Jules Verne could have foreseen the wondrous energy and other technologies that creative minds have made a reality today.

IGNORING ISLAMIC WAR-FIGHTING DOCTRINE       PC, Volume XI, Issue # 19, Jan. 15, 2009

Though Military Studies have traditionally valued and absorbed the texts of classical war doctrine — such as Karl von Clausewitz's On War, Wu Sun Tsu's The Art of War, even the exploits of Alexander the Great, as recorded in Arrian and Plutarch — Islamic war doctrine, which is just as, if not more, textually grounded, is totally ignored.

The senior Service colleges of the U.S. Department of Defense have not incorporated into their curriculum a systematic study of Muhammad as a military or political leader. As a consequence, we still do not have an in-depth understanding of the war-fighting doctrine laid down by Muhammad, how it might be applied today by an increasing number of Islamic groups, or how it might be countered." Today, seven full years after September 11, 2001, our understanding of the Islamic way of war is little better.

But, in the end, their relentless condemnation of him could not prevail against a committed and loyal base of support from the Conservative grassroots.

In sorry contrast, George Bush’s wretched unpopularity stands as proof of what awaits a socalled “moderate” who disparages his base, while seeking the good will of the Liberal opposition. Nobody on either side of the aisle will remain to defend him, even for his occasional worthwhile actions. This is hardly the route back to political viability for Republicans.

A CEASEFIRE IN GAZA?
By Dr. Denis MacEoin

Today, everyone's talking about a ceasefire in Gaza. With the UN proposing one and Israel demurring, the public, unaware of anything much about Gaza, Hamas or Israel, blithely puts Israel in the dock. Yet, during the last "ceasefire," when rockets continued to land in Israeli civilian centers, there was a noticeable silence on the part of the international community. It seems it's okay to drag Israel back from an attack on a massively financed and armed terrorist entity (and, if Hamas isn't a terrorist entity, it's hard to know what it is), but just not right to demand the same sort of action on the part of the terrorists. Don't forget, Israel isn't the only one refusing a ceasefire at this point: Hamas is rejecting one too, and for dishonest reasons.

Since their electoral landslide victory in November, 2002, Islamists within Turkey's Justice and Development Party (AKP) have camouflaged themselves as "democratic Islamic conservatives." The AKP claims to be the Muslim equivalent of the Christian Democratic Parties of Western Europe. Such an analogy is false, however. What the AKP seeks is not "Islam without fear," but, rather, a strategy for a creeping Islamization that culminates in a Shari‘a (Islamic law) state not compatible with a secular, constitutional democratic order. The AKP does not advertise this agenda, and often denies it.

As Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) begins its seventh year in leadership, Turkey is no longer the secular and democratic country that it was when the party took over. The AKP has changed Turkey's fundamental identity. Prior to the AKP's rise, Ankara oriented itself toward the United States and Europe. Today, despite the rhetoric of European Union accession, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has turned Turkey away from Europe and toward Russia and Iran and reoriented Turkish policy in the Middle East away from sympathy toward Israel and much more toward friendship with Hamas, Hezbollah, and Syria. Anti-American, anti-Christian, and anti-Semitic sentiments have increased. Islamist terrorism may have its roots in the Middle East, but it has long since expanded globally. Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country, is no exception. Jemaah Islamiyah (aka: Jemaah Islamiya, Jemaah Islamiah, and JI) has, for more than fifteen years, fought to transform Indonesia into an Islamist state. In recent years, its terrorist campaign has suffered setbacks. As Jemaah Islamiyah regroups, it builds upon the experience of Middle East terrorist groups. From Al-Qa'ida, it adopts philosophical underpinnings that guide its dual strategy. From Hamas and Hezbollah, it borrows an "inverse triangle model" in which a broad network of social services supports a smaller jihadist core, and, from Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf emirates, it adopts a model of charities and NGOs that help Jemaah Islamiyah advance its jihadist goals.

Amnesty International has demanded that the United States pressure Israel to stop its aerial bombardment. European and Arab diplomats hope that other states -- perhaps Syria and Iran -- will pressure Hamas to agree to a cease-fire.

It won't work. Knee-jerk diplomacy -- demanding a truce regardless of the cause of the fighting -- does more to accelerate conflict than to resolve it.
