One nightmarish chapter of the Obama/Reid/Pelosi Leftwing Liberal leadership in the U.S. national government has mercifully ended. The “lame duck” congressional debacle is, at last, at an end. And America waits expectantly to see if all of the efforts of the grassroots to begin the work of restoring the American nation hold any promise of paying off.

THE ULTIMATE DETERMINANTS OF AN ATTACK       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 259, Dec 20, 2010
SWEDISH JIHAD REVELATIONS
By Raymond Ibrahim

Even the most neutral country that has no dealings with Islam is a potential target for a jihadi terror attack; if and when the country gets attacked is based on if and when the Islamic world resurrects the caliphate — capability and timing being the ultimate determinants. Once a militarily capable caliphate is established, offensive jihad to subject the world to Islamic dominion becomes no less obligatory than restricting Western freedom of speech and expression in order to stifle mockery of Muhammad. In short, it is not about what this or that country does; Islamist animosity for infidels (i.e., unbelievers, or non-Muslims) is intrinsic, kept at bay only by circumstance.

The unprecedented power of this year’s Conservative groundswell has placed Washington Liberals completely on the defensive, which is a fate they never expected. It was barely two years ago that the future was seemingly in their hands. Now they must navigate an incredibly difficult course in order to maintain any political viability whatsoever. And, if Republicans remain firm and on message, the political Left may be steered inexorably towards a no win situation.

By Mark Wilbanks & Efraim Karsh

Just as the peremptory dissolution of Saddam's army in May, 2003, without the existence of an adequate substitute, opened the door to insurgencies of all hues, so the disbanding of the predominantly Sunni popular social movement, the "Sons of Iraq," which had been instrumental in turning the tide against al-Qa'ida in Iraq during 2007-2008, and the decision to incorporate SOI members into ministries, rather than the Iraqi security forces, has left a dangerous security vacuum in Iraq.

Changing in Europe & around the Globe
By Dr. Hans Labohm

It is not the climate that is changing, but the tide of public opinion about climate change. And rightly so, (A) because the scientific evidence simply does not support alarmist claims about "global climate disruption" and (B) because the outrageous costs of supposed "alternatives" to hydrocarbon-based energy will kill jobs and further hamstring economic rebirth.

By Benjamin Ismail

On July 13, 2010, France's lower house of parliament, the National Assembly, approved a bill outlawing the wearing of "clothing intended to hide the face" in public spaces and slapping a fine and possible jail time on offenders; on September 14, the bill was also approved by the French Senate. While the bill refrained from mentioning specific communities or religions, it was common knowledge that it was primarily aimed at the Muslim full body and face-concealing garments, the niqab and the burqa.

THE AMERICAN PRESIDENCY & THE U.S. CONSTITUTION

The U.S. Presidency is the most visible thread that runs through the tapestry of the American government. More often than not, for good or for ill, it sets the tone for the other branches and spurs the expectations of the people. Its powers are vast and consequential, its requirements impossible for mortals to fulfill without humility and insistent attention to its purpose, as set forth in the Constitution of the United States.

LAME DUCK WASHOUT DEMONSTRATES TEA PARTY RESILIENCE
By Christopher G. Adamo

The 2010 post-election “Lame Duck” session of Congress is officially underway, and represents a brief period of time in which America could conceivably be in the greatest peril of its existence. With nothing else to lose in the immediate aftermath of this year’s mid-term elections, Democrats had once been expected to utilize the time between November 2 and next January’s convening of the Republican dominated Congress to implement a host of legislative atrocities.

Somewhat surprisingly, relatively few new affronts to the U.S. Constitution and the U.S.A. are on the calendar. While this is certainly no time for Conservative America to let its guard down, the attack on the nation appears, for the moment at least, to be subsiding.

As Americans learn more about Islam, the aspect they find most objectionable is not its theology (such as whether Allah is God or not) nor its symbolism (such as an Islamic cultural center in lower Manhattan) but its law code, called the Sharia. Rightly, they say no to a code that privileges Muslims over non-Muslims, men over women, and contains many elements inimical to modern life.

The overarching theme of the lecture was that the United States, specifically the Bush administration, was to blame for our problems with the Muslim world.

TRUE INTERFAITH DIALOGUE OR DUPLICITY?       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 250, Nov 14, 2010
JEWISH THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY HOSTS
ISLAMIC TRIUMPHALISTS
By Alan Jacobs

Audience members in the packed Jewish Theological Seminary auditorium just down the block from Columbia University might have been gratified to see hijabs and yarmulkes adorning the heads of Muslims and Jews coming together for interfaith dialogue on the evening of Monday, October 25, 2010. The title of the event, "Islam in America: Assimilation and Authenticity," drew a large, mixed crowd, perhaps three hundred strong, eager for interreligious conversation. The anticipation of imams and rabbis in reserved front seats, or students filling other rows to the brim, was understandable -- isn't this, after all, the conversation Muslims and members of other faiths need to start having?

This optimism at the prospect of dialogue between mainstream Muslim organizations and their Jewish and Christian counterparts resurfaces often, and rarely for good reason. Monday night was no exception.

The November 2, 2010, elections resoundingly affirm that America’s top priorities are economic growth, job creation, and less Washington control of our lives. The elections are likely the final nail in the coffin of the cap-and-tax scheme.

However, even before close election contests could be decided, President Barack Obama announced that he will be “looking for other means” besides cap-and-tax to address the “problem” of carbon emissions and what the White House now calls “global climate disruption.” His top priorities include using the “lame duck” session of Congress, as well as administrative actions, to implement his “climate control” and renewable energy agenda.

In other words, should the West ban any and all clothing which obliterates one's identity? Most Europeans, according to recent surveys, seem to think so. Still, significant numbers, especially in the United States, and including quite a few feminists, have viewed such a ban as religiously intolerant, anti-woman, and anti-Western.

THE BIG GREEN BUS HAS FLAT TIRES
By Dennis T. Avery

If the Big Green Bus hasn’t actually stalled, it’s at least got a couple of newly-flattened tires. And the suddenly-Republican U.S. Congress’s opposition to energy taxes is only part of it.

It started, of course, after the 1998 El Nino, when global land temperatures refused to trend back upward. It became far more serous when world thermometers actually turned downward in 2007-2008. The disparity between the computer model forecasts and real-world temperatures has now become massive.

Then there was Climategate, which gave us a peep into the unscientific maneuverings of the “real climate scientists” in the IPCC establishment. The revelations seem to have broken the spell the Greens had cast over First World journalists.

THE ARAB LOBBY: THE AMERICAN COMPONENT
By Dr. Mitchell Bard

The charge of dual loyalty, a throwback to the longstanding anti-Semitic caricature of Jews as lacking true patriotism, is one that Israel's enemies have never tired of making against the "Israel lobby" and Jewish-Americans more generally. Arab lobbyists have been no exception to this rule. It is far easier, after all, to blame a mythological Jewish cabal for their repeated failure to advance an anti-Israel agenda than to concede that one's arguments are unpersuasive and have, therefore, been rejected by the majority of Americans. In the final tally, it would seem that most Americans would rather support their longest and most loyal Middle Eastern ally — and the only country in the region that shares their constitutional democratic ethos and ideals — than heed organizations which have consistently opposed American values such as freedom, constitutionalism, the rule of law, representative democracy, and human rights or which are linked to nations that have, or are seen to have, undermined U.S. security interests.

The National Association of Arab-Americans (NAAA), founded in 1972, was at a high point, and in 1980, former U.S. Senator James Abourezk established the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC). In 1985, James Zogby added the Arab American Institute. Some pundits predicted that AIPAC had finally met its match, and a few of AIPAC's own top supporters were alarmed. THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION ADRIFT IN ARABIA
By Dr. Efraim Karsh

Thus far, President Obama's policies toward the Middle East and the Muslim World have been a resounding failure. For all his hyped outreach to Arabs and Muslims — from the pledged "new way forward" in his inaugural speech to his first major presidential interview, given to the Al-Arabiya television network, to his submissive bow to Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, to his instruction to NASA to reach out to the Muslim world — Obama has failed to win the quiescence, let alone the respect and admiration, of Islamic societies. On the contrary, in line with Osama bin Laden's handy quip in the immediate wake of the 9-11 attacks that "when people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature, they will like the strong horse," Obama's prestige has been on a downward spiral since the first days of his Presidency.

As a reminder of how freedoms have eroded in Europe in this age of Islamist terror, a political party that resists Islamization and supports Israel cannot come into existence in broad daylight. So, like the other 50-plus attendees, I learned of the event's time and location only shortly before it took place. For good measure, the organizers operated undercover; the hotel management only knew of a board election for an innocuously named company. Even now, for security reasons, I cannot mention the hotel's name.

In the Medieval Era, such treatment was a standard aspect of Sharia's dhimmi codes, first ratified under Caliph Omar in the Seventh Century and based on Koran 9:29. Conversely, during the Colonial Era and into the mid-Twentieth Century, as Egypt experimented with westernization and nationalism, religious discrimination was markedly subdued. Today, however, as Egypt all but spearheads the Islamist movement -- that is, as Egypt reverts to its medieval character -- the Copts find themselves again in a period of severe persecution.

U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (Democrat - California) is on a mission. She intends to control our economy, opportunities, and lives. She intends to put the U.S. national government in charge of an American energy and free enterprise system that created more health, opportunity, and prosperity for more people than any other system in history. THE RULES OF THE GAME & ECONOMIC RECOVERY
By Amity Shlaes

If the experience of the Great Depression teaches anything, it is that property rights must be firmly established or else we will not have the kind of economic activity that leads to strong recovery. The Monopoly board game reminds us that economic growth isn’t mysterious and inscrutable. Economic growth depends on the impulse of the small businessman and entrepreneur to get back in the game. In order for this to happen, we need a government whose rules are not constantly changing and snuffing out the willingness of these players to take risks. We need a government under which the money supply doesn’t change unpredictably, there are not too many “Go to Jail” cards, and the top hats are confident in the possibility of seeing significant returns on investment.

This is as startling in an Islamic context, as it is in an American one. The boundaries of warfare are being stretched in novel, strange, and frightening ways.

He is an African-American who has moved from the fringe to the center of politics. He is a Democrat with a predictably Liberal voting record, yet he consorts with groups and individuals that represent a threat to constitutional democracy and the American Republic. He is a convert to Islam, but challenges Islamic orthodoxy on numerous issues legislatively. He identifies strongly with his faith, yet the details of his conversion and his current sentiments as a Muslim are obscure. He considers himself a friend of Israel, but, at other times, has appeared on the same platforms with speakers vocal in their opposition to the Jewish state and their support for terrorist groups that have murdered its citizens.

In turn, Westerners hem and haw, prevaricate, and finally fold. Along the way, each controversy prompts a debate focusing on the issue of free speech.

It appears as a novelty, and not a very interesting one, at a moment when discussion of Islam has returned to priority status. How can such an enterprise be needed, considering the plenitude of Middle East Studies courses available at America's existing universities and colleges? The answer seems to be that Zaytuna College will presumably vindicate the overweening narcissism of Zaytuna Founder and American Muslim cleric Hamza Yusuf Hanson, while providing a platform for the Islamist ideology of Hanson's mentors, Sheikh Abdallah bin Bayyah and, by extension, Yusuf Al-Qaradawi.

KORAN BURNING, ISLAMIC LAW, & THE GLOBAL JIHAD:
THREE COMMENTARIES
By Dr. Daniel Pipes

Islamic law, the Shari'a, insists that Islam, and the Koran in particular, enjoy a privileged status. Islam ferociously punishes anyone, Muslim or non-Muslim, who trespasses against Islam's sanctity. Codes in Muslim-majority states generally reflect this privilege.

No less important, Shari'a denigrates the sanctities of other religions, a tradition manifested in recent years by the 2000 Palestinian desecration of the Jewish Tomb of Joseph in Nablus, the 2001 Taliban destruction of the Buddhist Bamiyan statues in Afghanistan, and the 2002 Palestinian desecration of the Christian Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. A 2003 decree -- Fatwa # 40378, posted at The Encylopedia of Fatwas, www.islamweb.net -- ruled the Bible suitable for use by Muslims when cleaning after defecation. In May, 2010, Iranian authorities reportedly burned hundreds of Bibles. This imbalance, whereby Islam enjoys immunity and other religions are disparaged, has long prevailed in Muslim-majority countries.

President Obama, by speaking ambiguously about the threat Islamists pose to America's national security, demonstrated that he misunderstands the religion of Islam and its intrinsic imperialistic tendencies. For example, while the Obama administration rightly argues that America is not at war with terrorism because terrorism is simply a tactic, it also refuses to look at the Islamist ideology that drives that tactic: the administration winces at the use of the word "jihadist" because jihad is a fundamental tenet of Islam. However, calls for jihad throughout history have been an act of war, rather than a call to purify oneself or one's community.

The Obama administration has its head in the sand with respect to engagement with the Muslim world.

ARABS VERSUS THE ABDULLAH PLAN
By Dr. Bruce Maddy-Weitzman

The 2002 Arab peace initiative, commonly referred to as the "Abdullah plan," constitutes the most significant and explicit collective Arab declaration in favor of a peaceful, mutually agreed-on resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict ever made. By adopting the plan at the March, 2002, League of Arab States's Beirut summit and reaffirming it in Riyadh in 2007, the collective Arab position towards the conflict has been modified in the direction of a more explicit recognition of Israel. Notwithstanding the ambiguities of the declaration, especially on the issue of Palestinian refugees, a shift is discernable. From complete rejection (the "Three Nos" of the 1967 Khartoum summit) to qualified acceptance (the 1982 Fez summit) to the current expressed willingness to declare an end to the conflict and establish normal relations with Israel, the Arab states have moved to an officially proclaimed acceptance of the reality of a Jewish state in the region. Attaining a proper understanding of the initiative, however, requires an examination of the larger contexts in which it was forged.

MEXICO, BLOODY MEXICO
By Alan Caruba

Beyond the adverse impact of illegal immigration on the U.S. labor market, American taxpayers are spending $52 billion annually to educate the children of illegal aliens, with local governments taking the biggest hit of nearly $50 billion.

The pressures on the U.S. healthcare system and on the law enforcement agencies are comparable, and the U.S. government is doing very little to cope with the flood of illegal immigration.

Instead, the U.S. Department of Justice is doing whatever it can to punish states like Arizona for taking even the most minimal steps to protect Americans. As for the Department of Homeland Security, its preference is to ignore the problem. We are being ill-served by the Obama administration and are likely to be stabbed in the back by a lame-duck Congress.

IRAQ & THE MIDDLE EASTERN COLD WAR
By Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi

With the official end of U.S. combat operations in Iraq, what bodes for Iraq's future in terms of its relations to other nations in the Middle East? One useful way to examine this question is through the lens of what Daniel Pipes describes as the present "Middle Eastern Cold War."

This new Cold War represents the current ideological division in the Middle East between (1) the "revolutionary bloc," led chiefly by Iran, Syria, and, more recently, Turkey, and the (2) "status-quo bloc," led by Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

BUSH'S GIFT TO OBAMA
By Dr. Steven J. Rosen

The opening of direct talks between Israelis and Palestinians, rumored for weeks, is likely to put the spotlight back on U.S. President Barack Obama's Middle East policy. That isn't necessarily a good thing. The Israeli public does not trust him and will be looking for signals of his intentions. If he does not restore confidence in the role of the United States, it is hard to see how American mediation can succeed. Conversely, the Palestinians will be looking for signs that he is willing to lean on Israel, something the "professional Left" of his own party -- to borrow a phrase from Press Secretary Robert Gibbs -- also would love to see.

Almost from the moment of Algerian independence in 1962, the northern region of Kabyle has been subjected to heavy-handed repression by successive Algerian governments, endeavoring to Arabize the region, restrict use of the Kabyle language, and suppress the movement for Kabyle autonomy.

Despite government attempts to restrict his advocacy of Kabyle autonomy, Ferhat Mehenni has acquired an international reputation. In May, 2009, he spoke before the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, where he condemned Algerian policy outright and asked, "Is there a genocidal intention against the Kabyle people at the top of the Algerian state?"

As someone who deeply appreciates what Western Civilization, for all its faults, has achieved, I puzzle over the hostility many Westerners harbor toward their way of life. If representative democracy, individual liberty, free markets, constitutionalism, and the rule of law have created an unprecedented stability, affluence and decency, how come so many beneficiaries fail to see this?

Why, for example, does the United States of America, which has done so much for human welfare, inspire such hostility? And why does tiny Israel, the symbol of rejuvenation for a perpetually oppressed people, incur such passionate hatred that otherwise decent people desire to eliminate this state?

Over the past 30 years, we’ve spent billions of federal dollars trying to reduce the nitrogen and other nutrients that get into the Chesapeake Bay, with absolutely no impact on the murky water. The Obama strategy is to double down, as they did with their British-style “health care reform,” which has failed everywhere, including Britain. But, as the British decentralize their medical decisions to 50,000 doctors, the Environmental Protection Agency will now install mandatory farm management requirements around the Bay.

News that the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has come out in opposition to the planned construction of a 13-story "Córdoba House" or "Park51" mosque, two blocks away from "Ground Zero," should prompt us to ask whether it is truly right to oppose the building of this particular mosque.

To begin with, it should be noted that there is no basis for opposing its construction on legal grounds. That said, a distinction needs to be made between legality and morality. The key question, therefore, is: would the mosque fulfill the apparent, declared intention of fostering outreach and mutual respect between people of various faiths?

The answer, however, should be a clear "No."

NO SCIENTIFIC JUSTIFICATION FOR CO2 LIMITS       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 154, Aug 12, 2010
THE EPA MUST BE STOPPED!
By Alan Caruba

The EPA-proposed regulation of carbon dioxide emissions is based on the global warming fraud, which says that CO2 is responsible for a significant warming of the planet. There is not a scintilla of proof of this and, indeed, the Earth is presently in one of its natural cycles of cooling, not warming.

Thus, there is no scientific justification for the regulation of carbon dioxide, no matter how many times the EPA says there is.

If American industry, particularly the targeted power plants and oil refineries, are required to get greenhouse gas permits, it will put yet another huge sector of the nation’s economy under the thumb of the Environmental Protection Agency and the radical environmentalist movement -- the most insidious exponents of the global warming fraud, enemies of any economic growth.

What the Congressman did was highlight the abject hypocrisy, ineptitude, and completely self-serving mindset of the Obama administration, as well as its flagrant disregard for the plight of the people who make up real America.

The sunspot index, which has a much stronger correlation with our thermometer record than CO2 (79% versus 22%) started predicting the cooling in 2000. The sun is still in a long cold-predicting minimum.

In 2008, NASA itself told us that the Pacific had shifted into its cooling mode. The history of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation indicates a 30-year cooling phase, the opposite of the 1976–1998 warming trend.

Alex Seglers argues that a peaceful integration of Muslims in Catalan life is possible, if it is based on Muslim acceptance of European democratic values. The author writes that guarantees of religious freedom in Europe must rest not on acceptance of Islamist demands for special treatment, but in demarcating the principle that Muslims may become citizens, as long as they jettison the tenets of Islamist ideology. As he writes, "Muslim citizenship" and Islamism remain at odds, producing "hidden conflicts."

Such conflicts include controversies over Islamist proposals for European accommodation to Shari'a-based family law, with rights to polygamy and an acceptance of forced marriages.

SAYING NO TO A GROUND ZERO MOSQUE

The crimes of Islam against all who are not Islamic (and some who are Islamic, thanks to the Shiite-Sunni schism) are very old and fill the headlines of today’s newspapers.

The Muslims who flew commercial airliners into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon did not think they were doing wrong. They were doing what the Koran and almost every imam with the breath to preach told them to do; they were killing infidels.

This is why a mosque within steps of Ground Zero is so inherently wrong. It says that the intended victims of Islamic domination are simply too blind to envision their fate, too fearful to confront evil, to ready to get on the next train to Auschwitz.

Since Arabs and Muslims are so passionate about the Palestine problem, this argument runs, the Israeli-Palestinian stalemate feeds regional anger and despair, gives a larger rationale to terrorist groups like Al-Qa'ida and to the insurgency in Iraq and obstructs the formation of a regional coalition that will help block Iran's quest for nuclear weapons.

California’s southern Sierra snowfall has not changed over the past century, according to John Christy, a native Californian and atmospheric researcher who’s now in charge of the global temperature-measuring satellites. Christy reconstructed snowfall records at Huntington Lake, California, from 1916–2009. The station’s data since 1972 had been missing, but Christy found two nearby stations had very high correlations with Huntington Lake. That allowed him to assess southern Sierra snowfall over nearly the past century.

The station’s annual snowfall averaged 624 centimeters per year, with a non-significant trend of +0.5 cm per decade. He found similar positive, but insignificant trends, for Spring snowfall, annual stream flow, and precipitation. Nor did he find any trend in the published regional temperatures.

By Raymond Ibrahim

On Al Jazeera, renowned Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi addressed the important, yet little known, Muslim concept of taysir (taking the easy way). Qaradawi said that taysir is especially needed in "this era" and "especially for those Muslim minorities living in Europe and America."

Qaradawi is referring to postponing the enforcement of the harsher aspects of Sharia law (Islamic law) — e.g., subjugation of non-Muslim infidels, absolute authority over women, jihad, and draconian punishments — that create "hardships" for Muslims who try to implement them in the West, for instance, by getting them arrested and imprisoned.

In other words, far from "liberalizing" Muslim life, taysir allows only for insincere conformity to Western norms and standards of behavior. As Qaradawi made clear, to practice taysir is not to renounce Sharia's harsh obligations; it is to put them on hold till circumstances are more accommodating.

MUSLIM ENCLAVES U.S.A.:
Building the American Caliphate, One Enclave at a Time
By Ryan Mauro

It seems almost unthinkable, but Islamist groups are, as we speak, hard at work creating Muslim states-within-states in the U.S.A. Indeed, this process has been unfolding for a long time across the Western world, through the creation of isolated Muslim enclaves in both rural and urban areas, as well as through the designation of "no-go zones" where governments admit to having little authority over Muslims living there, essentially leaving them to function as autonomous regions.

The fact that the U.S.A. is a sovereign nation-state makes it hard to believe that free speech, the pillar of American constitutional democracy, could be in any actual jeopardy from United Nations treaties banning "hate speech" or recent efforts to proscribe what is being called "defamation of religions." Moreover, the U.S. government has always reserved the right to ignore any treaty provisions inconsistent with the First Amendment.

The problem is that international law and the First Amendment are not independent issues.

THE OBAMA REVOLUTION TO REMAKE AMERICA       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 113, July 1, 2010
THE NEW NEW DEAL
By Dr. Charles R. Kesler

In President Obama, American Conservatives face the most formidable Liberal politician in at least a generation. Obama won election not as a status quo Liberal, but as an ambitious radical reformer. Far from being content with incremental gains, he set his sights on major systemic change in health care, energy and environmental policy, taxation, financial regulation, education and even immigration, all pursued as elements of a grand strategy to “remake America.” In other words, he longs to be another Franklin Delano Roosevelt, building a New New Deal for the 21st. century, dictating the politics of his age, and enshrining the Democrats as the new majority party for several decades to come. Suddenly, the era of big government being over is over; and tax-and-spend Liberalism is back with a vengeance. We face a $1.4 trillion federal deficit this fiscal year alone and $10-12 trillion in total debt over the coming decade. If the ongoing expansion of government succeeds, there will also be very real costs to American freedom and to the American character. The Reagan Revolution is in danger of being swamped by the Obama Revolution.

There have been many setbacks, but, in the early 1990s, a group of intellectuals, known in contemporary Arabic literature as the New Arab Liberals, Al-Liberaliyun al-'Arab al-Judad, was informally established in the Arab Middle East.

Jaw-dropping U.S. Court testimony by Faisal Shahzad, the would-be Times Square bomber, singlehandedly undermines Obama administration efforts to ignore the dangers of Islamism and jihad.

Shahzad's willingness to name his Islamic purposes and spend long years in jail for them flies in the face of Obama administration efforts not to name Islamism as the enemy, preferring such lame formulations as "overseas contingency operations" and "man-caused disasters."

Americans – as well as Westerners generally, all non-Muslims, and anti-Islamist Muslims – should listen to the bald declaration by Faisal Shahzad and accept the painful fact that Islamist anger and aspirations truly do motivate the terrorist enemies of civilized society. Which is more likely to elicit an irate Muslim response: (1) public cartoons of the Muslim prophet Muhammad, or (2) public proclamations that Muhammad was a bisexual, sometime transvestite and necrophile, who enjoyed sucking on the tongues of children, commanded a woman to "breastfeed" an adult man, and advised believers to drink his urine for salutary health?

MAIN ISSUE OF THE ISRAELI-ARAB CONFLICT       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 70, May 11, 2010
ACCEPTING ISRAEL AS THE JEWISH STATE
By Dr. Daniel Pipes

When a major Arab state would finally sign a peace treaty with Israel, it was long assumed, the Arab-Israeli conflict would end. The Egypt-Israel peace treaty of 1979, however, buried that expectation; it had the perverse effect of making other states and also the Egyptian populace more anti-Zionist.

The 1980s gave birth to a hope that, instead, Palestinian recognition of Israel would close the conflict. The total failure of the 1993 Declaration of Principles (also known as the Oslo Accords) then buried that expectation.

What now? Starting about 2007, a new focus has emerged, of winning acceptance of Israel as a sovereign Jewish state.

It is almost beyond comprehension that Senator John Kerry (Democrat - Massachusetts) and Senator Joseph Lieberman (Independent - Connecticut) will introduce the Cap-and-Trade Act on Wednesday, May 12th, for consideration by the U.S. Senate. The proposed legislation is being passed off as a “climate bill” with provisions for more oil drilling, but it is an assault on reality, on science, on common sense, and on any future economic growth of the nation.

We still need to drill, so that we can drive, fly, farm, heat our homes, operate factories, and do everything else that requires reliable, affordable petroleum. Indeed, over 62% of all U.S. energy still comes from oil and gas. And we certainly need the jobs and revenues that U.S. offshore energy development generates.

Nothing in the plant world grows without nitrogen, and we have less than half enough manure — so we take nitrogen fertilizer from the air. Lack of nitrogen and too much pest damage (especially weeds) cut organic crop yields by about 40 percent, compared to the crop yields of conventional agriculture.

Jihadists have been killing Americans for a long time, doing so from the 1983 attack on the Beirut Marine barracks to the attacks on U.S. embassies in Africa, the attack on the USS Cole, the recent Fort Hood attack, and now the abortive car bomb attack in Times Square.

WHAT DRIVES ISLAMIC TERRORIST ACTIVITY?       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 63, May 5, 2010
WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO BLOW UP TIMES SQUARE?
By Dr. Daniel Pipes

When news comes of Muslims engaging in violence, the triad of politicians, law enforcement, and media invariably presumes that the perpetrator suffers from some mental or emotional incapacity.

Instead, I argue, they should begin with a presumption of jihadi intent. That is, the default expectation should be ideological passion, not insanity. Spreading Islam and applying Islamic law are the goals. Of course, some crazy Muslims exist and they do engage in violence, but they constitute a microscopic percentage of the 15,247 Muslim terrorist incidents since 9/11, as counted by www.thereligionofpeace.com.

The thrust of the conference was simple: The war on terror has led to a crackdown on Muslim charities, which has had a chilling effect on Muslims by rendering them unable to engage in Zakat (charity), one of the five pillars of Islam.

Unmentioned throughout this eight-hour infomercial was that the majority of the charities that have been investigated for financially aiding terrorism were found guilty and that decent Muslims are capable of giving to charities that do not foment bombings and beheadings.

U.S. CYNICISM ABOUT IRAQI DEMOCRACY       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 20, Feb. 1, 2010
IRAQ -- A WATERSHED ELECTION
By Dr. Michael Rubin

FULL STORY:   After the Iraqi parliament banned 500 candidates from contesting the March 7, 2010, national elections, U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden rushed to Baghdad to urge Iraqi political leaders to reconsider. While the ban has fueled U.S. cynicism about Iraqi democracy, such cynicism is unwarranted, especially now.

WIND NO SUBSTITUTE FOR FOSSIL FUELS       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 19, Jan. 31, 2010
A CHILL HITS WIND POWER
By Dennis T. Avery

As I write, a strong wind is blowing across the Alleghany Mountains onto my house. It’s bringing an “Arctic Clipper” that will drop my temperatures this weekend to a frigid and unusual 6 degrees F. Why can’t I get some good from this chill wind — with a wind turbine to harvest the “free” energy?

ECONOMIC GROWTH & PROPERTY RIGHTS       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 18, Jan. 30, 2010
THE GREAT GREEN LAND GRAB
By Alan Caruba

All across America, various environmentalist organizations have been engaged in schemes to deter development such as housing, new energy plants, or the horror of a manufacturing facility that might actually employ people. In some states, the attack has been on farms and ranches, finding ways to punish their owners for improving their land in any fashion, such as digging a drainage ditch.

Property rights were deemed so essential, so important to the economic future of America, that the Founding Fathers wrote an Amendment to the United States Constitution to protect those rights, ensuring that private property could not be taken for public use “without just compensation.”

IRAN -- THREAT TO PERSIAN GULF SECURITY       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 17, Jan. 26, 2010
THE GULF STATES IN THE SHADOW OF IRAN:
IRANIAN AMBITIONS
By Patrick Knapp

The Obama administration is caught on the horns of a dilemma. On the one hand, it has welcomed the Gulf Security Dialogue (GSD) as a chance to further "mutual interests" with Persian Gulf states, but, on the other, it has sought pragmatic engagement with the Islamic Republic of Iran — the greatest threat to Gulf security. Michael Knights, a Persian Gulf expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, noted in September that the "rapid advances" of the military forces of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) were the result of the dialogue. He predicts that they "may eclipse Iranian capabilities in the Gulf within ten years." [1] Yet the GSD's initiatives are inadequate and need a foreign policy that stresses relationships and ideals. If policy within the Gulf is to be dominated by shortterm pragmatic demands, it may turn out to have unwanted consequences for other alliances in the region. That in turn could well have a negative impact on the United States.

AMERICA'S NIGHTMARE -- WHIRLPOOL OF DEBT       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 16, Jan. 23, 2010
THE BILL COMES DUE FOR SOCIALISM IN AMERICA
By Alan Caruba

It began as a beautiful cruise to a land of “hope and change,” but it has become a nightmare in which the ship of state is being deliberately steered toward a whirlpool of debt from which, if Barack Hussein Obama is successful, the American nation cannot escape.

AN ISLAMIST TERRORIST SUPPORTER IS LET IN       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 15, Jan, 22, 2010
TARIQ RAMADAN PERMITTED TO ENTER THE U.S.A.
By Dr. Daniel Pipes

The Swiss Islamist Tariq Ramadan was about to take up a position at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana in 2004, when the U.S. government prevented him from entering the country on the grounds that he had funded two Hamas-related groups. For five years, his exclusion has been debated and tried. Finally, it was reversed two days ago

OPPOSING ADVANCES IN FOOD PRODUCTION       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 14, Jan. 21, 2010
GREENPEACE OPS FOR MILLIONS OF BLIND KIDS
By Dennis T. Avery

“A danger to the planet,” of course, is what Greenpeace has called virtually every recent advance in global food production. At the same time, they claim the earth cannot sustainably feed the people already here. The European Union, to its shame, has backed up Greenpeace with threats to boycott the farm exports of any country which allows biotech plantings. In India, rice farmers protested plantings of the new rice, for fear the EU’s ban on biotech foods would block their exports of high-value basmati rice.

THE ROLE OF SYRIA IN THE IRAQI INSURGENCY       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 13, Jan. 20, 2010
SYRIA'S FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR JIHAD:
SYRIAN TERROEISM
By Dr. Matthew Levitt

It costs a lot of money to run an insurgency. There are arms to buy, attacks to launch, bribes to pay. The local population has to be won over, and extensive networks have to be actively maintained, often involving members of various groups, criminal syndicates, corrupt officials, and independent operators such as local smugglers. Explosive devices have to be made, guns have to be brought in from abroad, volunteers have to be indoctrinated and trained.

LAWRENCE ON THE U.S.A. IN THE MIDDLE EAST       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 12, Jan. 18, 2010
T. E. LAWRENCE: AMERICAN STRATEGIST
By Dr. Daniel Pipes

A fine article by Bertram Wyatt-Brown, "Lawrence of Arabia: Image and Reality," in The Journal of the Historical Society, December, 2009, pp, 515-548, traces the reputation of T. E. Lawrence (1888-1935) through the near-century since his remarkable exploits during World War I and his famed recounting of those events in Seven Pillars of Wisdom (1926). Wyatt-Brown's account of Lawrence's role since 2006, when he had a deep impact on the American expeditionary force in Iraq, came as news to me.

NOT EXACTLY MOTHER TERESA:
Unethical Greenpeace Actions Threaten the Livelihoods of Millions
By Paul K. Driessen

Greenpeace constantly harasses companies that it deems insufficiently virtuous in advertising their products, protecting the environment, and promoting their public image. But the Rainbow Warriors’ own actions would frequently merit fines or even jail time if committed by profit-making businesses.

The Warriors justify their actions as necessary to advancing their legal, legislative, and regulatory agenda – and getting people and foundations to write a check or click their website’s “donate now” button. Almost anything goes.

The world must be made aware of the harm Greenpeace inflicts, especially on the earth's poorest peoples.

INVESTIGATIVE PROJECT ON TERRORISM (IPT)       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 9, Jan. 14, 2010
STEVEN EMERSON -- COMBATING RADICAL ISLAM:
DEFEATING JIHADIST TERRORISM
By Dr. George Michael

Steven Emerson has emerged as a powerful independent force who works with U.S. security services, but carries out investigations on his own in areas beyond the federal security agencies' reach. He does not take any funds from the government. In 1995, he established his own think tank, the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT), which has since conducted investigations into many Islamist and terrorist groups and individuals. The IPT has stirred up more hornets' nests than many government agencies. Its acute focus has allowed it to hone in on targets that broader agencies missed. Emerson's initiative has paid off handsomely.

REID UNMASKS REALITIES OF LIBERAL DEMOCRATS' "SENSITIVITY"
By Christopher G. Adamo

The sanctimony of Liberal Democrats on the issues of race, gender, national origin, and religion is, and has always been, invoked on an extremely selective basis, surgically targeted for the sole purpose of advancing the Liberal political agenda. And, as such, it is the epitome of hypocrisy. Ultimately, the fate of its beneficiaries and/or victims is of no consequence to those at the pinnacle of Liberal power.

USDA MISLEADS ON FARMING'S CLIMATE FUTURE
By Dennis T, Avery

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued a new report that attempts to forecast the impact of climate change on American farming in the next 50 years. USDA seems to expect serious climate-related farming problems ahead, but the recent changes in global climate have been tiny — and in the “wrong” direction! The earth’s temperatures are now slightly cooler than when NASA’s James Hansen first warned the U.S. Senate about “runaway global warming” in 1988.

THE LIES ABOUT GREEN JOBS
By Alan Caruba

The job of every voter in November, 2010, is to remove from office every Senator and Representative that voted for and supported the Obama administration’s policies, that is, those Obama supporters who run for reelection to Congress.

Then, maybe, we can put America on an economic footing that will generate real jobs and put an end to the Green Lies about “green jobs,” the proposed legislation inspired by environmentalists, and the existing Green laws and regulations that are currently killing any hope of economic recovery.

STOPPING THE DEVASTATION THE LEFT IS CAUSING       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 5, Jan. 7, 2010
GOP CANNOT COAST INTO 2010 ELECTIONS
By Christopher G. Adamo

The 2010 mid-term campaign season is now upon America, and none too soon. With two weeks still to go before his term reaches the one-year mark, the damage President Barack Hussein Obama has inflicted on this nation is almost incomprehensible. Among those who recognize the degree to which the former greatness of the country is being obliterated, the congressional elections of this coming November represent the best hope of stopping the devastation.

NOT BY FIRE, BUT BY ICE
By Alan Caruba

Will the next ice age begin shortly? Depends on what you mean by “shortly” -- because it could be tomorrow or it could be another two centuries or so. One thing is sure; the Earth’s latest interglacial period is nearing an end.

A magnetic reversal accompanying the new ice age would likely have a devastating effect on planet Earth, including massive extinction of most forms of life currently existing on the planet.

SAYING "NO" TO WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION       PC, Volume XII, Issue # 2, Jan. 3, 2010
COPENHAGEN DASHES THIRD WORLD EXPECTATIONS
By Dennis T. Avery

In the wake of Copenhagen’s collapse, my wife was asked, “With so many poor people in the world, shouldn’t we share our abundance — global warming or not?” That’s been the hidden agenda of the Hard Left through the whole global warming campaign: “spreading the wealth.”

My wife, however, had spent 15 years living in four African countries. She replied she’d never vote to give American money to Africa’s tribal thugs. It would simply disappear, as have so many billions in government handouts, enriching Swiss bank accounts not creating sustainable prosperity for the people.

“They aren’t poor because we’re rich,” she says correctly. “Nor are we rich because they’re poor.” In the Pacific Northwest, early Indian tribes had a culture based on “potlatch.” Whenever anyone had good fortune, they threw a party for the tribe. The wealth was spread, but no one was better off after the party than before.

OBAMA'S MAKE-BELIEF LIFE
By Alan Caruba

I have this theory about Barack Hussein Obama. I think he’s led a kind of make-believe life in which money was provided and doors were opened because at some point, early on, somebody or some group took a look at this tall, good looking, half-white, half-black, young man with an exotic African/Muslim name and concluded he could be guided toward a life in politics where his facile speaking skills could even put him in the White House.
